PLAYS FOR YOUNG ACTORS

Writing the

plays ...

I have tried to create plays that will be enjoyable to produce, rehearse and perform. Each play has a wide variety of characters and challenges for everyone but there should also be a lot of fun as well. There is a good range of smaller roles that are enjoyable to perform. An author can only create so much of a character so there is ample scope for the producer and cast to develop ideas as the rehearsals progress.
The settings are all easily created - in fact simple settings with good costumes and props to create the atmosphere will work very well. The props are usually suitable for the cast to create or produce themselves.

Quality before quantity has been in my mind. The plays are not too long so that a good standard can easily be achieved. I have also included a number of effects that are not complicated but they will surprise audiences and make the play more exciting for the cast as well!

Entertainment for a varied audience has been an important consideration. I have tried to create a storyline that will be enjoyed by children and adults and humour similarly aimed at different levels.

A lot of people attend Youth Group and School Plays as a duty rather than because that's how they wish to spend the evening. One aim in writing these plays has been to entertain a wide ranging audience and to make everyone on both sides of the stage feel that they have had an enjoyable evening.
