Mark Billen's

PLAYS FOR YOUNG ACTORS

About the author ...

Mark Billen specialises in writing plays for schools and youth theatre groups. His plays have been produced in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Singapore.

The Love for Three Oranges, based on the same traditional Italian story as Prokofiev's opera, was first produced in 1994. Since publication it has been regularly performed by schools and youth theatre groups in the UK. It has also received several productions in the USA and has also been performed in Canada and Singapore.

The Zoron, a play about a computer game causing chaos, was first produced in 1998, was published in 2001 and has proved popular in several productions in the UK.

Bl ... Bl ... Bluebeard! makes fun of the old tale and is also a parody of horror stories. The play was published 20th September 2005 and the first production was booked the next day! It had a very successful premiere in December 2005, at a school in Rhode Island, USA. and has since had several British productions as well as further productions in the USA, Canada and Australia.

All in the stars ... is about King Confort and his bumbling astrologer, Canard, who keeps making unfortunate predictions yet by the end of the play his 'predictions' become very useful.

Perfect Pupil is about the development of a new robotic school inspection system that will supposedly always give outstanding results!

Seeking Sleeping Beauty takes a new and unusual look at a traditional fairy story with twist upon twist leading to an unexpected ending ...

'Seeking Sleeping Beauty' will have its first production

in the USA during January 2012.

Mark Billen is clearly a man who knows what he is talking about in that his talk seemed to come from someone who was familiar with many of the problems that have dogged me and many other 'producers', I have no doubt for years: lack of space, limited casts, the need to find the right material to suit the characters of this year's group, some means of maintaining interest without pandering to the worst taste .....And in spite of the fact that he has been facing all these eternal niggles, he has had the confidence to write and produce his own work and has made a success of it.'
